Directions

From the Northeast (Edinburgh, Glasgow…)

Take the M74, signposted Carlisle
Turn off at A702 Elvanfoot, signposted Thornhill
Join A76 at Carronbridge, signposted Thornhill
Thornhill is approx 70 miles from either Edinburgh or Glasgow

 

From the Northwest (Ayr, Kilmarnock)

Take the A76. (A70 first, signposted Cumnock, Edinburgh) if coming from Ayr; join A76 (signposted Thornhill, Dumfries) at Cumnock)
Thornhill is approx 45 miles southwest of Kilmarnock and about the same distance from Ayr.

 

From the East (Lockerbie)

Take A709 (signposted Dumfries); join A75 (signposted Castle Douglas, Stranraer, Kilmarnock) at outskirts of Dumfries, then take A76, signposted Kilmarnock).
Thornhill is approx 30 miles from Lockerbie.

 

From the South (Carlisle, Dumfries)

From Carlisle, take M6/M74 North (Edinburgh, Glasgow); take A75 at Gretna (signposted Annan, Dumfries); Take A76, signposted Kilmarnock.
Thornhill is approx 15 miles north of Dumfries and approx 50 miles from Carlisle.

 

From the Southwest (Stranraer, Newton Stewart, Castle Douglas etc…)

Take A75 (signposted Dumfries, Carlisle) to outskirts of Dumfries, then A76 (Thornhill, Kilmarnock). Thornhill is approx 85 miles from Stranraer (by this route; others shorter but twistier); 30 from Castle Douglas.

 

From the West (New Galloway)

Follow A702, signposted Moniaive. Thornhill is approx 25 miles from New Galloway (but road is twisty, so allow time)
