Window Dressing Competition
Posted on : 21st December 2011

Thornhill Community Council today handed over shields to the winners of the Christmas Shopping Night 2011 Window Dressing Competition.

“The old shields hadn’t enough space left on them, one was missing and none of them seemed to have been engraved for the past five years or so.”, commented David Kerr, Vice Chairman of the Community Council, “so we thought it would be best to provide new ones; a First, Second and Third, and have them engraved with this year’s, and last year’s, winners.  We got them from John McQueen, the Engraver, in Maxwelltown, and he’s made a lovely job of them, so they should stand the village in good stead for some years to come. We’re going to see if we can find somewhere to display the old ones permanently.  In the meantime, the proud winners are displaying their shields in their own premises.  We’re very grateful to the judges, who said that the standard of entries was very high and, indeed, to all who helped to make this year’s Christmas Shopping Night such a success, despite the weather.”

This year’s winners (with last year’s in brackets) are:
1st: Pets’ Larder (A1 Curtain Design)
2nd:  Marchbanks’ Tea Rooms (J. McKendrick & Son)
3rd: J. McKendrick & Son (Drumlanrig Café)
